With the environment at the forefront of the agenda at the moment, we answer your AGA questions and separate fact from fiction…
How can I ensure my AGA runs at maximum efficiency? Regular servicing will ensure your AGA is running at its most efficient. When the AGA engineer services your cooker, he will give it a really thorough check and make sure that the insulation is at the correct level, the burner is running efficiently and that all parts are in good working order. AGA also offers a healthcheck for all its cookers, where an engineer visits and gives your AGA a thorough inspection to check that all is well.
I’ve heard there is an AGA you can programme to come up to temperature when it’s needed. Is this true? Yes the 13-amp AGA has a system called AIMS – AGA Intelligent Management System. This allows your AGA to slumber when you’re not using it to cook, but to be ready to use when you need it.
I have an AGA which used to run on solid fuel, but has been converted to run on oil. How environmentally friendly is it? This is a tricky question to answer. AGA itself has never carried out these conversions so there is no real way to check how well it’s been done. However, it’s very unusual for a converted AGA to run as efficiently as one designed specifically for the fuel in question. With conversions, the cooker is simply not working in the way it was designed to.
I have a 13-amp Electric AGA that doesn’t have AIMS. Is it possible to get it fitted? Yes you can retro-fit AIMS to any 13-amp electric AGA that has an extended vent.
